IBIMET is leading the Regional Training Center of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO-RTC), in Florence - Italy, since mid-nineties. The Italian Centre is part of the Global Network of the RTCs, established in 1958, on which the WMO Education and Training Programme (ETR) is based. Currently the RTCs Network is formed by 25 RTCs with 35 institutions as components, which help to identify and serve regional needs with some of the centres serving members outside their associated regions. The Italian RTC is serving WMO Members in RA-VI (Europe) and RA-I (Africa) in key areas of agrometeorology, climate change response and urban meteorology. It also provides logistical solutions for students, with financial support through grants. The Italian RTCs courses' methodology includes face-to-face lectures, e-learning activities and on the job training, thanks to the collaboration of the Environmental Modelling and Monitoring Laboratory for Sustainable Development (LaMMA Consortium), that assure high level weather forecasting courses, including specific hands-on activities. In addition, a number of distinguished professors and experts from Italy and abroad are invited to give lectures, and educational material is prepared by leading scientists and experts. Trainers of RTC-IBIMET actively participate to WMO Commissions and Working Groups and to International Expert Teams, and cooperate with Universities and other National and International Research Centres, therefore assuring the competences needed to deliver WMO compliant courses. In 2014 the RTC-Italy has scheduled important courses for WMO Members in “Climate Change Impacts on Agricultural Systems in Africa”, "Water Footprint Application for Water Resources Management in Agriculture" and “Seasonal Forecasts for Agriculture in the Mediterranean”, as listed below. |
